Famous stand-up comedian Khyali Saharan is facing criminal charges after being accused of raping a 25-year-old woman in a hotel room in Jaipur. The police have registered a case against the comedian on the basis of a complaint that was lodged by the woman. The incident allegedly took place when the comedian, who is an AAP activist, was in an “inebriated condition” and raped the woman on the pretext of helping her get a job.
According to the police, the woman, who hails from Sriganganagar and worked as a marketing executive for a firm, came in contact with the comedian nearly a month ago seeking help for a job. Khyali booked two rooms in a hotel, one for himself and another for the two women. The comedian allegedly consumed beer and forcibly asked the women to drink beer. Later, one of the women left the room and he raped the other woman.
The incident is being investigated, and a case under IPC Section 376 (rape) has been registered against the comedian. When contacted, Aam Aadmi Party’s state spokesperson Yogendra Gupta said that what the comedian does in his private life is a different matter and has nothing to do with the party.
Khyali is a part of The Great Indian Challenge season 2, in which Rauf Lala was the winner. He was also seen as a guest in The Kapil Sharma Show.
The allegations against Khyali are serious and reflect the deep-seated problem of sexual abuse that exists in our society. It is imperative that we take every accusation of rape seriously and ensure that justice is served. The victim must be provided with all necessary support and care, and the accused must be held accountable for their actions.
