Multiple Intelligence- It’s concept, theme, types and importance.
Good education develops all
proficiencies in students.
Today’s educational scenario is vast, for success . Students need good health, I.Q. and multiple intelligence (M.I.) plays an important role in overall development of a student.
Dr. Hardner Gardner, a Professor of education at Hawdard University, America, developed theory of M.I, which asserts that all people
possesses several types of intelligence like logical, methodical, musical, bodily k i n e s i c, l i n g u is t i c, interpersonal, spatial and naturalistic. So Gardner named them
collectively ” Multiple Intelligence.”
According to Gardner, all human beings have multiple intelligence in
varyIng amounts. These intelligence are located in different areas of the brain and can either work independently or together, Most classroom educators focus on linguistic and logical mathetical
intelligence and which leaves students gifted in other areas out of teaching equations. This M.I. they expands the ways for educators and students both.
Now for enhancement of above 8 kind of M.I. in students, We can induce following set of activities in students-
Corel speaking story teling retailing debating , presenting , dramatizing, listening, writing.
Logical mathetical –
problem solving mathetical problem
solving, measuring, coding, critical solving, measuring, coding, critical thinking, solving puzzles, playing logic games.
photographing, graphing, making 3D project spainting , sketching illustrating.
hands on experiences going on field trips physical, edu, activities,
humming, rapping, playing music, playing instruments , rhyming and
classroom partis , peer editing , cooperative learning, group
work , peer teaching , discussing social awareness.
personal response, individual study
individual projects, independent reading.
reading out side, cloud watching, building habits, dissecting, going on a natural walk, making birds feeders, going to zoo.
Apart from all above mentioned activities . each student possesses his/her own set of unique strengths, needs interest and learning styles.
Even though each individual
possesses aII eight intelligences in greater or lesser degrees, they may be strong in a few areas and
experience the world through particular inteligence.
Importance of M.I.
1. By using all eight intellicences for
teaching essentially encom passes what good teachers have always done in their teaching, reading, beyond the extension and the blackboard to awaken students minds.
It is an active learning methodology.
This connects teaching lessons to students to their own multiple intelligences and how to actively use them in learning and everyday life. M.I. is as equaling to Activity Based
Learning. Active learning has three fold meaning, first-that students engage in some forms of physical activity in the class, second-that students gain hands on experience.
third- that at highest level, activity learning uses the active engagement of the students thinking process in learning and applying knowledge.
So by above explanations in we
can assure about usefulness
of M.I. and Enhancement of
M.I. in students and teachers,
and in teaching learning praticies and make students all rounder in knowledge & learning.
