Chhapra is reeling from the shock of a kidnapping that took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Sunil Kumar Rai, a prominent leader of the RJD, was abducted from his home by a group of masked men carrying weapons. The abductors, who arrived in an SUV, forcibly took Sunil from his residence in Sarha under Mufussil police station area of the town.
Sunil’s father, Ram Vilas Rai, recounted the events leading up to the kidnapping. He said that his son received a phone call at 4am, and was asked to step outside his house. The abductors were waiting in an SUV parked outside, and they quickly forced Sunil inside before driving away. Police later recovered his damaged phone near his house, and CCTV footage confirmed that the culprits had taken Sunil by force.
Sunil has a long history with the RJD, having served as an active member for many years. However, in the lead-up to the 2020 assembly elections, he was denied a ticket by the party to contest the Chhapra seat. Disillusioned by this setback, Sunil left the party’s fold. Nevertheless, he eventually returned to the RJD and was presently engaged in property dealings.
The case has been handed over to a special investigation team (SIT) formed by Saran SP Gaurav Mangala. The team has already begun talking to Sunil’s family to gather information that could lead to his safe recovery. They are also studying CCTV footage of the area in order to gather more leads. Locals have reported that Sunil was brutally beaten while being kidnapped, which makes the case all the more urgent.
The entire community is hoping for a quick resolution to this harrowing situation. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sunil and his family during this difficult time.
