Renowned actor Sameer Khakhar passed away on March 15 at the age of 71. The actor had established himself in the entertainment industry with a successful career spanning 38 years. While he took a short break from the limelight and moved to the USA, he returned to the industry and continued to work on both TV shows and films. In fact, Sameer was particularly popular for his role in Salman Khan’s movie Jai Ho and had also done two Gujarati plays.
In an exclusive interview with ETimes TV, Sameer’s cousin Ganesh Khakhar revealed that the actor passed away due to multiple organ failure. He explained that Sameer was initially suffering from respiratory issues and eventually collapsed at 4:30 am that morning.
Sameer’s funeral was held at the Borivali crematorium at 10 am on the same day. He was known for his iconic characters in popular TV shows like Nukkad, Manorajan, Circus, Naya Nukkad, Shrimaan Shrimati, and Adaalat. His last appearance was in the show Sanjivani, where he acted alongside Surbhi Chandna and Namit Khanna.
When he returned from the United States, Sameer was looking for quality roles to work on. In a conversation with a news portal, he revealed how he was actively seeking opportunities to stay relevant in the industry. “I am hopeful people who know me will offer me work. I would like to work till my last breath. I want to entertain people all my life, and I am not tired yet,” he said.
Sameer Khakhar’s contribution to the entertainment industry will always be remembered, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Additionally, his work in Gujarati theatre has also left an indelible impact on that field. May he rest in peace.
