A tragic incident took place on Sunday morning at Worli Sea Face when a speeding car hit a 42-year-old woman while she was jogging. Rajalaxmi Ram Krishnan, the victim, was a resident of Dadar Matunga and the CEO of a technology company. She was known to be a fitness enthusiast and regularly jogged with a group from Shivaji Park on Sundays.
The impact of the accident was so severe that Rajalaxmi was thrown several feet up in the air, ultimately succumbing to serious head injuries. Her husband, also a runner, received a call from the police and Rajalaxmi’s colleague asking him to come to Worli as soon as possible.
After being taken to the nearby Podar hospital, she was declared dead. According to eyewitnesses, the driver, Sumer Merchant, was driving at a very high speed when he lost control of the Tata Nexon car and hit Rajalaxmi. Sumer, along with his friend, was on his way to drop his female friend at Shivaji Park.
Fortunately, the local people caught the driver and handed him over to the Worli police, who have booked him under various sections. The police are yet to decide on the specifics of the charges, but they have sent him for a medical test to check whether he was under the influence of alcohol.
As for Sumer, he has admitted to hitting the divider before hitting Rajalaxmi. However, the authorities will scrutinize the eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage to determine the cause of the accident.
This tragic accident highlights the importance of safe driving and the consequences of neglecting it. Losing a loved one is an irreparable loss, and such incidents could easily be prevented if individuals follow traffic rules and exercise caution on the road. May Rajalaxmi’s soul rest in peace.
